I learned to ride a bike not long after learning to walk. The novelty I felt as a child never really wore off. Now I'm 25 and riding more than ever.
I grew up in El Granada, CA across the highway from Mavericks - the world famous big wave. Surfing gave me an appetite for adreneline, but it was mountain biking that satiated it. Fortunatly for me, El Granada was equally close to Montara Mountain, also known as Pacifica. The mountain's various fall lines, drainage ditches and rock faces provided ample opportunity for my friends and I to test ourselves on two wheels. Interestingly, the spot is just now starting to recieve the attention it deserves.
Although I raced a handful of times when I was very young, it wasn't until my jnuior year of college that Trevor Pratt convinced me to give it another try. I was instantly addicted. My entire senior year of college was dominated by the Oregon XC circuit. Not only did I love racing, but I absolutely adored the lifestyle. The new places every weekend, variety of terrain, and the people I met, all added up to unforgettable experiences.
I still love racing as much as I did when I started, if not more. And I'm getting better. I saw some results in 2013 which I would have considered impressive the year before. 2013 also had me in Whister, B.C for nearly 4 months, one of the greatest experiences of my life. There I participated in the weekly XC races on terrain that would be illegal in the United States. I progressed rapidly. Upon returning, I took the win at the 12 Mile Super D in Ashland for Cat 1, a fitting end to a fantastic season.
In 2014 I hope to continue where I left off and continue to increase my placings in Cross Country. I am particularly looking forward to the races that fit me well, such as the Lemurian Classic and Downieville. I tend to do well on very technical courses. I also plan to return to Whistler to continue my progression there inside and outside of the park.
